I immediately saw it as a marriage between Meret Oppenheim's fur lined tea cup and Rene Magritte's Ceci n'est pas une pipe

I think it makes for quite a satisfying tabletop object just on its own--the wood is beautiful and the elongated egg form really elegant--though it would be fun to see it put to use as the topper for a whole new construction

I believe this was once either lidded or made to carry

And I can make out that the diorama captured by the photographer was the creation of the child, showing the Meccano Destroyer off to "pick the huns" with huns, I believe, slang for Germans. Of course me its all about the diorama, with wonderfully folky
