1984 Painted Eagle Carving by W. Crossley, Cape Cod brass candlesnuff The first of the two

The first of the two was dated 1828

and feels to me most likely done by a Canadian folk artist in the 1970s or 80s or so

most of what one sees dates from the early to mid-20th century

it is beautiful

both constructed around old blue glass Vicks VapoRub jars

Crossley and dating from the 1970s 80sjust enough to learn that he lived in Cape Cod and that birds native to the area were his thing. I find this eagle a very good one not a bit fussy or showy but rather quite elegant and watchful on its perch, as eagles are, and with a head that also reminds me a bit of a seagull, which makes it feel a bit friendly!
