The leaves are short and thin with a distinctive groove down the center. Interestingly the leaves lay flat during most of the winter growing season but then put on a late season burst of growth in the spring around flowering time. At that point they leaves become more upright. After flowering the plants go dormant for the summer and die back to to the bulb. It
