I think handmade paper dolls have really not gotten their full due

so would have worked more like a marionette--though his long flat feet seem definitely designed for tapping

so would think this dates to the first quarter of the 20th c

Small but wonderfully detailed--all that intensively carved fur and those tiny little feet and crosshatched tail

I just love the looks of it, a little wonky in all the right ways, with the faces of the drawers stained what looks like three different shades, and a sweet combo of scalloped edging on the front and spiked edge behind.
