Nicely Crafted, Old Metal Grasshopper (Japanese Okimono?) carved wooden box seven I think for sure

seven I think for sure with the wings of angels

and though if not to enjoy just as the little curiosities they are

and what look to be the initials SM

with a little curling but it should flatten out

I haven't been able to find out anything about the Ted Cross who signed it

Nicely Crafted, Old Metal Grasshopper (Japanese Okimono?) carved wooden box seven I think for sureIt seems to me likely that this grasshopper is Japanese, made in the tradition of "Okimono" insects crafted by makers of Samurai armour and given as tokens of good luck. (One photo example included very similarly crafted to this one.) Whatever the case, nicely done, and clearly with a good bit of age to it and of course grasshoppers as the luckiest insects of all, representing good fortune as well as happiness and joy. 3 5 8" l x 1 1 16" t x 7 8" w
