Clearly it was made for a purpose

but I've figured out it reads: I can not give the(e) up

I have seen images of orange vessels just like these topped with highly stylized pointy lids ending in exaggerated bulbous tips

And a pretty great white stripe painted down the front of this brown horse's face

I have a weakness for these 19th c. theorem style watercolors of roses, and even more so when they contain a butterfly or two as here, rarer to find. Theorem painting was first taught in the U. S. to young women in academies and boarding schools in New England, and made use of stencils
